Healthy ways to indulge on Thanksgiving Day

What a beautiful time of year! Thanksgiving is the one day we set aside to show gratitude, eat good food and spend time with family. Go ahead, indulge!

Here are some quick ways you can really savor the holiday and be good to your body.

1. Nibble: Go ahead, pinch that bit of stuffing right as it comes out of the oven. Grab a finger of whipped cream before you put it on the pie or pop a green bean in your mouth as you are preparing them. Snacking is healthy for you and a good way to pace your body rather than gorging. It’s also more fun hanging in the kitchen if you get to taste test things!

2. Pay attention to how you feel: Ok, the holidays can be stressful and busy. It can be hard to find a quiet moment for self-reflection. But in order to really indulge, it’s important to be mentally present. Are you grabbing that fourth crescent roll because it looks so delicious? Or are you thinking, “If I don’t cram a crescent roll in my mouth soon, I’m gonna snap!” Breathing will help you quiet the nerves and help you listen to what your body really wants.

3. Share! 

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
